When these occur together with skin reactions, they may indicate a severe allergic response known as anaphylaxis, which can affect multiple organ systems.
Anaphylaxis can be triggered by foods, medications, insect stings, or environmental exposures, and it can happen even after previous harmless exposure.
Because it can progress rapidly, sometimes within minutes, early recognition is critical. Severe cases require immediate emergency treatment, often including epinephrine and urgent medical care.
