Your dishwasher is a real time-saver, but it isn’t designed for every kitchen item. The combination of very hot water, strong detergent, and powerful spray jets can wear down materials quickly, sometimes ruining them after only a few washes. Knowing what to keep out of the dishwasher protects your cookware, keeps it looking better longer, and saves money over time.

Sharp knives should always be hand-washed because dishwasher jets can dull the blade and detergent may corrode the metal. Cast iron is another big “no,” since the dishwasher strips away the protective seasoning and can cause rust. Wooden cutting boards, spoons, and bowls also suffer in high heat and moisture, leading to warping, cracking, and possible long-term damage.

Nonstick pans are best washed by hand because harsh detergents slowly break down the coating and can cause it to peel. Insulated drinkware like tumblers and thermoses can lose their vacuum seal, while gaskets and lids often trap grime. Aluminum and copper cookware should also stay out of the dishwasher, as detergent reactions can cause discoloration, pitting, and loss of shine.

Delicate dishware deserves special care too. Fine china with metallic rims can fade or crack, and crystal or hand-blown glass can become cloudy or even break from heat changes. Small gadgets like graters and garlic presses often trap food in tiny crevices, meaning they won’t come out truly clean. When in doubt, check the label or wash by hand to keep your kitchen tools in top shape.

Next Post: Yesterday I bought some regular sausage at the store—nothing special, just wanted to make myself a couple of sandwiches. At home, I cut a few pieces, ate them, and put the rest in the fridge. Everything was fine. 🤔 Then in the morning, I decided to make breakfast, took out the same sausage, grabbed a knife, and suddenly realized it was cutting strangely, as if there was something hard inside. I thought maybe it was frozen. But when I cut another piece, the knife got stuck. I looked and was stunned: something was shining right in the middle of the sausage. 😱 At first, I thought it was a piece of metal. I started poking around, and suddenly, from the pink mass, I pulled out… a flash drive. A regular flash drive, several gigabytes in size. 😲 I shuddered with disgust—I’d already eaten this sausage! How could a flash drive end up inside a factory-made product, and not the cheapest one at that? But curiosity overcame disgust. I turned on the computer, inserted the flash drive, and froze at what was on it. 🤔 I gave the details in the first comment, but you be more careful. 👇
