At a family dinner, my MIL served everyone lasagna, then set a bowl of lettuce in front of me and said, “You have a pretty face. It’s a shame you let your body ruin it.” I smiled and ate my salad. At the next dinner, I arrived with a beautifully wrapped “gift”. She froze as she opened it in front of everyone. Over the next few weeks, she actually used the journal—filling some pages with reflections and apologies she never said out loud.
